Stocks in news, shares to watch today: Benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty hit their fresh record high levels in early trade on Thursday. However, the indices erased the gains and closed with moderate gains. The 30-share BSE Sensex hit its lifetime peak of 77,145.46. The index closed 204.33 points or 0.27 per cent higher at 76,810.90.

The NSE Nifty witnessed a rangebound session on weekly expiry day after renewing its all-time high with a gap up start. It ended the session in the green at 23,398.90, 75.95 up points or 0.33 per cent. The index hit a record peak of 23,481.05.
