India's Retail Inflation Rises to 5.08% in June Driven by High Food Prices

India's retail inflation, measured by the All India Consumer Price Index (CPI), rose to 5.08% for June against a growth of 4.80% in May, according to data released by the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation on Friday.

Inflation in the reported month was also higher than the 4.87% recorded in June 2023 but was still within the Reserve Bank of India's target range of 2% to 6%.

Inflation in the food basket increased to 9.36% in June, from 8.69% in May, and it was also higher than the 4.55% posted in the year-ago period.

The inflation rates for rural and urban areas in June came in at 9.15% and 9.55%, respectively.
